This is the information I have been able to find so far. I am working with a Tom Devon whom is a cousin of one of William Jr.'s children. We have uncovered quite a bit of information in a short time. The following is from Tom's Family Tree listed on Ancestry.com:
William L. Nesbitt, Sr.
William L. Nesbitt was born in England in
about 1887 according to the 1930 US census records for Washington, DC where
he was a resident. This same source listed his father as being born in
England and his mother being born in Scotland. The census also listed
William's date of arrival in the US as 1902, when he would have been about
15. From family tradition, he was from New York
State before arriving in Washington
in the early 1920s, there is also a tradition that stated that he came from
Canada. If so, he may have arrived in Canada from England prior to 1902 as a
young boy and then emmigrated to the US. At some time around 1914 or 1915 he
married Minnie "Ruth" (maiden name unknown) who by family tradition was
one-half blood Senaca Indian. The 1930 census listed Ruth as being born in
New York with her father's nativity listed as New York and her mother's as
Pennsylvania. By family tradition, her family was from the area around
Elmira, NY. From the US census, three boys were living with them in 1930,
William Lovejoy born in New York in 1917, Lloyd Fuller also born in
New York in 1920 and Lynn Marvin born in
Washington DC in 1924. The 1910 US census for Elmira, NY listed William (age
28) as being married to Evelyn (age 23) and having two children, boys,
Laporte L. age 4 and R. (Robert) Sterling aged 6/12 months both being born
in New York State. The years of marriage were 5, placing this marriage as
taking place in 1905. William was listed as Can. (Canadian) English while
his wife was from Pennsylvania. His occupation was that of Printer, Office.
Since the writing of the above: I have found that William Lovejoy Nesbitt was born William Ernest Stroud Lovejoy Jan. 29, 1878 to Thomas Lovejoy and Mary Ann Nisbet. William's father died when he was a boy and I found him in the 1901 England Census in a boys school in London. At some point he came to the US I believe via Canada. I still haven't found this yet. William also changed his last name to a different spelling of Nesbitt. I'm not sure why he didn't take the original spelling of his mothers name. This made finding the family a challenge but finally it all came together.

Thomas Lovejoy and Harriet Elkin. They had 8 child.
i. Elizabeth Lovejoy. She was born 1837. I did not find Elizabeth on the 1841 England census or any other census. She may have died young. I haven't been able to confirm this.
2. ii. Thomas Lovejoy. He was born 1840. He married Mary Ann Nisbet. They were married on 15 May 1875 in St. Mary at Lambeth, Middlesex, Lambeth,. He died 1887 in Wandsworth, Surrey, England.
iii. John Lovejoy. He was born 1841.
iv. Charles Lovejoy. He was born 1846.
v. George Lovejoy. He was born 1848.
vi. Frederick Lovejoy. He was born 1850.
vii. Julia Lovejoy. She was born 1852
viii. William Lovejoy. He was born 1856.

2. Thomas Lovejoy-2 (Thomas Lovejoy-1). He was born 1840. He died 1887 in Wandsworth, Surrey, England.

Unknown true name. William listed fathers first name as Thomas on Marriage certificate, but William was listed on William Lovejoy's Death Certificate. So father's name maybe William Thomas. Changed to Scotland from information for William Lovejoy's death certificate 9/6/07 - found this information to be incorrect.

William Laporte died young. I haven't been able to find his death date. I do have a copy of his original birth certificate. It lists William L. Nesbitt. Since he was listed as Laporte on the 1910 census, I am assuming his middle name is Laporte after Evelyn's father.
